Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 First Details Revealed — New Character Vic Kingsley and a Darker, More Sorrowful Story
The first trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will officially premiere on July 4 at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, offering fans their first look at the next standalone story set in Night City.
Today, CD Projekt Red dropped the first wave of information for the sequel to the 2022 phenomenon, including the reveal of a new Edgerunner character — Vic Kingsley.

As the follow-up to the breakout animated sensation, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has already confirmed it will retain the basic framework of its predecessor. The series will once again be produced by CD Projekt Red in collaboration with TRIGGER and distributed globally by Netflix, running a full 10 episodes. This time, however, the show will feature an entirely new cast of characters, telling an independent story that unfolds on the neon-lit streets of Night City.
The second season will be directed by Igarashi Kai, who helmed Episode 6 of the first season—a standout installment widely praised for its emotional impact and visual direction. Character design will be handled by Sugano Ichiki, while the core writing team from the first season is returning in full force.

CDPR describes the second season as a “brutal legend of revenge and redemption,” with a tone that is intentionally darker and more sorrowful than the first. While the original series already pushed boundaries with its heavy emotional weight and visceral action, the creative team is leaning further into the tragedy that defines Night City’s underworld.
For context, the first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premiered on Netflix in September 2022 and became an instant cultural touchstone. It earned a remarkable 9.0 rating on Douban, was crowned Best Anime at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and holds an 8.3 rating on IMDb. The series’ striking visual style and gut-wrenching narrative cemented its reputation as one of the best video game adaptations ever produced.
With the first trailer arriving in just over a week, fans won’t have to wait much longer to see whether the sequel can capture the same lightning in a bottle—this time with a darker lens trained on the edges of Night City.
