Discord Lands on Meta Quest With VR Live Streaming and a Free Nitro Offer
Discord has officially arrived on Meta Quest headsets, bringing the popular chat platform to virtual reality for the first time. The app is available now on the Meta Horizon Store, and if you download and sign in before September 30, you get a month of Nitro on the house — unless you’re already a subscriber, in which case the offer doesn’t apply.
The Quest version runs as a 2D overlay rather than a fully immersive VR experience, but it still packs the core features that make Discord essential for online communities. You can send text messages, jump into voice channels, and watch friends’ live streams. More interestingly, the app lets you broadcast your own first-person VR perspective directly to friends — a feature that could make multiplayer VR sessions feel a lot more social.

It hasn’t been a smooth launch. UploadVR reports that the app suffers from stability issues, and the live streaming performance is notably weak. On the Meta Horizon Store, the app currently sits at a 3-star rating. Users have flagged a recurring problem where Discord randomly crashes whatever VR game is running, alongside complaints about bugs, stuttering, and general sluggishness. For an app that’s supposed to enhance social gaming, crashing the game is about the worst first impression.

This launch closes a loop Meta started last year. At its Connect conference in September 2025, Meta announced plans to deeply integrate Discord into the Quest ecosystem. That led to account linking in December 2025, which let Quest users connect their Discord and Meta accounts and display their active VR games in their Discord status. Dropping the full Discord app onto the Horizon Store is the final piece of that promise — even if the execution needs work.
For now, Discord on Quest is a promising idea held back by rough software. If Meta and Discord can clean up the stability issues, the ability to stream VR gameplay live to a Discord channel could make Quest headsets genuinely more social. That’s something no other VR platform offers out of the box.
