Apple Seeds macOS 27 Developer Beta 1 to Mac Users
Apple kicked off the next major version of its desktop operating system on Tuesday, seeding the first developer beta of macOS 27 to registered developers.
The build — identified as 26A5353q — is available now through the Software Update mechanism in System Settings. Developers enrolled in Apple’s program can navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and click the Beta Updates option to pull it down. A public beta is also expected soon, accessible through the Apple Beta Software Program.
The release marks the beginning of the macOS 27 cycle, coming roughly a year after macOS 26 debuted at WWDC 2025. While Apple hasn’t published a detailed changelist yet — the initial beta is typically a platform handoff to developers — build 26A5353q gives registered users their first look at whatever system-level changes, API updates, and under-the-hood refinements Cupertino has planned for the next 12 months.

As with any early developer beta, expect rough edges. Apple advises installing on secondary machines rather than daily drivers. The company usually follows the first beta with a second build in two to three weeks, with a public release likely in the fall alongside new Mac hardware.
Registered developers can download the beta now. A fuller breakdown of changes typically emerges from the developer community over the next 24 to 48 hours as builders and early testers dig into the release.
