BMW M2 Laps the Nürburgring in 7:25 with New Track Package

The BMW M2 just did something that usually takes years of aftermarket tinkering — straight from the factory. Equipped with the new M Performance Track Package, the coupe lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes 25.068 seconds, making it the fastest production compact car (fuel and hybrid) ever timed at the Green Hell.

That time beats the previous class record holder, the M2 CS, by roughly half a second. The CS had posted a 7:25.534 lap. BMW says the run was officially公证 (notarized) at the track on May 22.

The Track Package is the real story here. It’s a bundle of chassis and aero components engineered to turn the M2 into a weekend track weapon without sacrificing road legality. The kit includes an adjustable front splitter, aerodynamic blades, and a manually adjustable swan-neck rear wing that can be set to a dedicated track mode. The headline piece: a coilover suspension system with racing dampers — the first time BMW has offered this type of hardware as a factory option that’s also legal for street use.

Jörg Weidinger, the M chassis development test engineer who holds multiple Nürburgring lap records himself, handled the overall chassis tuning. That’s the same person who dials in BMW’s fastest production cars, and his touch shows in the lap time.

Jonas Krauss, head of M Performance Parts product management, put it plainly: “With the new M Performance Track Package, we offer uncompromising performance for track-day enthusiasts. This system is tailor-made for the BMW M2.”

The result is a car that splits the difference between a daily driver and a dedicated track car better than anything BMW has sold before in this segment. No cage, no stripped interior, no tow hooks — just adjustable suspension, real aero, and a stopwatch that says 7:25.

BMW hasn’t announced pricing or availability for the Track Package as a standalone option, but the M2 itself starts around $64,000 in the US. For buyers who want Nürburgring-record pace without going the full GT4 route, this is likely the closest BMW will offer.
