Epic Games Store is Giving Away River City Girls 2 and a Cult Horror Classic This Week
Epic Games Store refreshes its free game lineup every Thursday, and this week’s pair covers two very different ends of the gaming spectrum: a colorful arcade brawler and a psychological horror game based on one of sci-fi’s most disturbing short stories.
River City Girls 2, developed by WayForward and released in December 2022, is the sequel to the 2019 cult hit. It picks up where the original left off — more beat-em-up action with the same 16-bit pixel art style and comic-book cutscenes that fans liked the first time around. The game added full co-op support and expanded the roster of playable characters beyond the original two protagonists.
The second game is something else entirely. I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream started as a 1967 short story by Harlan Ellison — one of the most harrowing works of science fiction ever written. The game, released by Cyberdreams and now published by Nightdive Studios, adapts that story into a point-and-click adventure. Five cursed souls are buried deep inside a deranged supercomputer named AM, trapped for 109 years. The player explores each character’s painful past and confronts their deepest fears in a psychological battle against the machine. It’s not a comfortable game, and it was never meant to be.
Both games are free to claim until next Thursday. After that, Epic will swap in Nova Lands — an open-world base-building game set on alien planets — and Tattoo Tycoon, a management sim about running a tattoo parlor.
