Reddit blocks 23 million spam views per day using AI to fight AI

Reddit is fighting AI-generated spam with AI of its own. The platform said Sunday that its upgraded automated systems now intercept 23 million spam view impressions every day.

On top of that, Reddit’s AI catches 25,000 new spam posts or comments every 24 hours and strips out nearly 2 million bot-driven votes.

The cleanup is measurable. Spam exposure dropped 20%, and the frequency of spam account contact fell 10 to 15%.

Reddit says it has monitored suspicious accounts since the platform launched. But the new layer — powered by large language models — catches the stuff traditional filters miss: carefully orchestrated fake engagement designed to look human. Any account that behaves like a bot now has to prove it belongs to a real person.

The same AI approach is cleaning up hate speech and violent content. Detection-to-action time is under 5 seconds, enforcement effectiveness is up more than 200%, harmful content exposure dropped over 40%, and false positives fell by the same margin.
