Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 spied without camouflage next to AITO M9 — it's noticeably bigger

A new video surfaced online Sunday showing Xiaomi’s upcoming SkyNomad N90 SUV in the wild without any camouflage, parked next to an AITO M9 for a direct size comparison. The footage makes one thing immediately clear: the N90 is built on a different scale entirely.

The SkyNomad N90 looks visibly larger and more boxy than the M9, with a squared-off silhouette that suggests Xiaomi is prioritizing interior space over aerodynamics. The video also captured the rear doors opening to nearly 90 degrees — a practical detail that makes climbing into the second and third rows significantly easier than in most modern SUVs with their restricted door openings.

The sighting comes just days after China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology published its 409th batch of vehicle production announcements on July 10, which included four SkyNomad models from Xiaomi. The lineup covers a surprising range: the N90 Max Camping Edition (an extended-range electric camper van), alongside the N70, N70 Max, and N90 Max — all classified as extended-range multi-purpose passenger vehicles.

Xiaomi Pengcheng’s official Weibo account revealed Sunday that the first SkyNomad test vehicle hit the road on October 12, 2024. By June 30, the program had accumulated 626 days of road testing across two summer and two winter cycles, with 566 test vehicles logging a combined 4.28 million kilometers.

That’s an unusually extensive test program by Chinese automotive standards — most domestic EV startups launch with a few hundred thousand kilometers of validation, not millions. The figure suggests Xiaomi is treating the SkyNomad launch with the same engineering rigor it applied to the SU7 sedan.

The lineup spans four configurations: a camping van, a three-row seven-seat family hauler, and multiple standard multi-purpose versions. With the N90’s generous proportions and the near-90-degree door openings caught on video, Xiaomi seems to be betting that buyers want an EV that does more than just look fast.
