Acer Predator Atlas 8 handheld arrives in UK from £999.99

Gaming handhelds just got another serious contender. Acer has revealed the UK pricing for the Predator Atlas 8, its first dedicated portable gaming PC, and the numbers start at £999.99 for the base model.

That price includes the full 20% VAT, so the pre-tax figure works out to roughly £833. The entry-level configuration pairs an Intel Arc G3 processor with 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 60Wh battery.

The Atlas 8 runs on Intel’s Arc G3 series — buyers can choose between the standard Arc G3 and the higher-performance Arc G3 Extreme. Both variants pack an 8-inch 1920x1200 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits of peak brightness, and ten-point touch support. Acer says the screen also uses a low-reflection coating, which should help when you’re not playing in a dim room.

Cooling comes from a dual-fan setup, which will need to earn its keep if the Arc G3’s performance numbers are anywhere near what Intel has been promising. The controls are equally spec-heavy: full-size TMR joysticks, dual-trigger switches that toggle between micro-switch and Hall-effect sensor modes, and a pair of back buttons for extra inputs.

The two G3 Extreme models jump to an 80Wh battery, which should translate into noticeably longer play sessions. The top-end SKU also doubles the RAM to 32GB, though 24GB is already more than what most current handhelds ship with.

Acer is entering a market segment that has matured fast. The Steam Deck proved there was real demand for portable PC gaming, and devices like the ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go have since pushed the hardware further. The Predator Atlas 8 differentiates itself with the Arc G3 Extreme option, a higher-resolution 8-inch screen at 1920x1200 (most competitors still use 1280x800 or 1920x1080), and a larger battery in the top configurations.

Whether those specs justify the premium over a Steam Deck or ROG Ally depends on what Intel’s Arc G3 silicon can actually deliver in real games. Acer has not announced a firm ship date yet, but with UK pricing now public, a launch later this summer looks likely.
