Apple Tests an AI Tool That Transcribes Everything You Say at the Genius Bar
Apple is testing a new AI system called “Live Notes” that automatically transcribes and summarizes conversations between Genius Bar employees and customers, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported Monday.
The system is currently running in a limited number of Apple Stores. When a staff member activates it during a service session, the AI records the conversation and generates a real-time transcript and summary. Those records are then saved to Apple’s internal Genius Bar system.
The stated goal is straightforward: let employees focus on the person in front of them instead of typing notes while a customer talks through a broken screen or a battery that won’t hold a charge. The AI handles the documentation.
But the tool has already triggered pushback from some store employees. The obvious concern — if the system captures everything said during a service appointment, could that data eventually surface in performance reviews or coaching sessions?
Apple says no. According to Gurman, the company has stated that raw audio isn’t saved, managers can’t view transcripts, and employees can edit both the transcript and summary before committing them to the internal system.
For now, participation is voluntary. Apple hasn’t said whether it plans to expand Live Notes to all stores or make it mandatory down the line.
