DJI Responds to Pocket 4 Stock Shortages: First Batch Supply Up Nearly 10x, Scalpers Identified and Reported to Police

DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4P launched on June 23 with a starting price of ¥3,799, but many eager buyers found the device sold out within moments across multiple retail channels.

According to a report from Beijing Daily, DJI stated that the series received overwhelming attention following its release. The company significantly increased first-batch production compared to the previous generation — Osmo Pocket 4 series initial stock was nearly 10 times that of the Osmo Pocket 3 launch. Despite this substantial ramp-up, market demand still exceeded expectations, leading to stock shortages across several channels.

In response to the abnormal purchasing patterns during the launch, DJI launched an investigation and successfully identified multiple scalper rings. The company filed formal reports with law enforcement, and following preliminary police investigations, criminal coercive measures have been taken against several groups in recent days.

Investigations revealed that the scalper rings employed illegal tactics including virtual phone numbers and virtual IP addresses to carry out computer information system-related crimes, deliberately disrupting the normal purchasing order on DJI’s official store.

According to IT-NEWS’ previous report, on June 2, DJI spokesperson Zhang Xiaonan directly addressed the Pocket 4 shortage controversy, explicitly denying allegations of “hunger marketing.”

Zhang stated that any available inventory would be released immediately across all channels as soon as it arrived. She noted that throughout the Pocket 3 lifecycle, the company continuously expanded production with monthly capacity doubling repeatedly. For Pocket 4, the factory is accelerating production to meet the unexpectedly high demand that far exceeded initial sales forecasts.
