Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gets a PC Benchmark Tool Before Its September Launch
Capcom used its latest “Capcom Spotlight” stream to pin down a release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword — September 25 — and to announce that a PC benchmark tool will hit Steam and the Epic Games Store on July 14. That gives PC players a way to check whether their rigs can handle Musashi’s demon-slaying rampage before the full game ships.

A demo is already live on Steam, so anyone curious about how the reboot feels can jump in now. The benchmark tool, arriving at 9 a.m. Beijing time on July 14, is separate from the demo — it’s meant for configuration testing rather than gameplay.
Way of the Sword brings back the series’ signature hack-and-slash combat. Players control the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, carving through demons in a Japan that blends historical Sengoku-era settings with supernatural fantasy. The game isn’t open world — it’s level-based, with each stage throwing enemies and trap-laden puzzle rooms at the player in quick succession. The development team says the main story runs about 20 hours, with optional side quests and hidden content for players who want to dig deeper.

Capcom has been careful about the difficulty dial. The game is built for fast, satisfying combat — think arcade action with a sharp edge — but the team isn’t aiming for Souls-like punishment. The philosophy is straightforward: make the fights challenging enough to feel earned, but accessible enough that a wide range of players can enjoy cutting through demons without rage-quitting. That distinction has been a deliberate part of the game’s identity since its announcement, and it shapes everything from enemy placement to the rhythm of sword clashes.
For a franchise that hasn’t had a mainline entry since 2006, Way of the Sword is shaping up to be a meaningful return — one that leans on the series’ established strengths rather than trying to reinvent them.
