OpenAI Upgrades GPT-5.5 Instant AI: Sharper Insights, Better Shopping Recommendations
OpenAI today announced an upgrade to its GPT-5.5 Instant model, delivering sharper user intent understanding, more reliable handling of complex multi-condition tasks, and noticeably more practical shopping and local recommendations.
The company originally launched GPT-5.5 Instant on May 5, boasting a 52.5% reduction in hallucinations on high-risk topics such as medicine, law, and finance, alongside significant improvements in math, science, and visual reasoning. A subsequent update on May 30 focused on making responses more natural, readable, and structurally clear while reducing verbose lists.
Today’s upgrade goes a step further, emphasizing the model’s ability to read between the lines when understanding user intent. OpenAI says the updated model is better at grasping the implied meaning behind questions and refining its output expression accordingly.

The new version also handles complex constraint conditions more reliably, maintaining stability across multi-condition tasks. In practical terms, the model now delivers more coherent and context-aware shopping recommendations and local suggestions. When users ask about product choices, purchasing advice, or nearby services, the model’s output better connects with the conversational context and feels closer to real-world usage scenarios.
As for availability, OpenAI paid subscribers gain access to the upgraded GPT-5.5 Instant starting today, while free-tier users will receive the update tomorrow.
