Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 Rumored to Return to Snapdragon for China and US Models
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip lineup may be poised for yet another chipset pivot. According to prominent leaker Ice Universe, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip8 will reportedly abandon the Exynos 2600 in favor of a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor for both Chinese and US-bound variants — marking a swift reversal after a single generation on the company’s in-house silicon.

The move would represent a significant strategic shift for Samsung’s foldable division. Until the Galaxy Z Flip7 launched in 2025, every clamshell foldable in the series had shipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform. The Flip7 broke that tradition by adopting the Exynos 2500 across all global markets — a decision that initially signaled Samsung’s growing confidence in its own chip capabilities for premium form factors.
Just weeks ago, Korean outlet The Bell reported that Samsung intended to double down on Exynos, equipping both Korean and American Flip8 units with the next-generation Exynos 2600, while leaving other regions to different configurations. Ice Universe’s latest claim directly contradicts that roadmap and suggests the company may be hedging against performance or yield concerns with its upcoming mobile processor.

Beyond the silicon saga, early specifications for the Galaxy Z Flip8 are beginning to take shape. The device is expected to feature a 4.1-inch OLED cover display paired with a 6.9-inch inner folding screen, with respective resolutions of 1048×940 and QHD+. These dimensions suggest a modest refinement of the Flip7’s form factor rather than a radical redesign.
The mixed signals surrounding Samsung’s chip strategy highlight the complex calculus behind flagship foldable development. While vertical integration through Exynos offers cost advantages and supply chain independence, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform continues to deliver benchmark-leading performance and, crucially, superior modem technology — a consideration that may weigh heavily for markets like the United States and China where 5G performance and carrier compatibility are non-negotiable. As Samsung prepares for an expected summer 2026 unveiling, the Flip8’s final silicon configuration remains one of the more intriguing open questions in the foldable space.
