Apple Is Planning Two New Apple Pencils for Spring 2027

Apple is planning two new versions of the Apple Pencil, with at least one model expected to launch next spring alongside the next-generation iPad Pro, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Gurman wrote in his latest newsletter that Apple is working on two internal prototypes. The first, codenamed B582, is an update to the entry-level Apple Pencil released a few years ago. That budget model charges over USB-C but skips wireless charging and pressure sensitivity, and the refresh is expected to follow the same approach.

The second model, codenamed B632, is a follow-up to the Apple Pencil Pro that debuted in 2024 alongside the M4 iPad Pro. The Pro model introduced squeeze gestures, haptic feedback, and Find My support. B632 would serve as the flagship stylus for the next hardware cycle.

Gurman has previously reported that Apple plans to release the next iPad Pro lineup in spring 2027, which lines up with these Pencil updates.

The timing also coincides with a brewing regulatory shift. The European Union is moving toward requirements that consumer electronics batteries be user-replaceable or significantly easier to service. Current and past Apple Pencils are notoriously hard to repair — the cylindrical body is packed with components held together by adhesive. Gurman speculates the new models could adopt a redesign centered around a more accessible battery system. If that happens, it would be a meaningful shift for a product line that has prioritized slimness and sealed construction over repairability since the original model launched in 2015.
